I think he was being facetious. I agree 2500 hours is plenty to upgrade. However I don't agree with someone having no time in the equipment upgrading after 30-40 hours. If you have 10k hours with a few types then it's another story. But someone with min requirement is still trying to figure things out, so putting him/her in an unfamiliar type, in a new company, different routes and airports is a bad combo. Unless you're super pilot, then you're good to go!
Well that's how EVERY airline with multiple types works. You fly as an FO on one type then you upgrade on another type...whichever you can hold.
If they can pass training they're good to go...unless the training department sucks or has no standards.
