Untrue. I take the direction of the majority of the pilots in my base., not the company. If they change their mind, I do as they direct. I get them the best most accurate up to date information and let them decide the direction. I then pursue their agenda with vigor, even if I personally don't agree.
Let me know the next time you sit and call all of your based pilots to get their opinion individually so they can speak freely without fear of speaking in public in the crew rooms. I've done it twice in the last 1.5 years. The second time I didn't get more than 3/4 through before voting came, but it was so lopsided there wasn't any doubt where the base was at. It took several days each time. That was time locked in my office at home away from from family because I give a ****. Sure, I could do like other ALPA reps and wait for pilots to email or call me, but that doesn't address the silent majority does it? What's the last thing you did for your fellow pilot besides gripe on here?
Our base Facebook page has about 2/3rds of our base on it and is extremely active. I average about 7,000 to 8,500 cell minutes a month talking with my pilots... unlimited texts.... and never ending emails. Trust me, I know exactly what the majority in my base wants me to be working on.
The company had a rare opportunity to turn it around. Instead they squandered it.
