Also, QOL can vary quite a bit based on your domicile, cert and plane, which is why you'll have people post with different experiences.
I've been here a little while and have sat hot reserve for months at a stretch. I'll agree that it felt like the biggest waste of my life I'd ever experienced. I'd rarely get called to fly and did mostly repos and maintenance runs. This was back when we had mostly airplanes with those noisy propeller thingies. 😃
