If you are working at any of the higher paying airlines and have a few years there more then likely you will fall under the AMT. If that happens all these deductions become worthless.

very situation dependent.
I've been at FedEx for 10 years grossing north of 180K for a while now and hadn't paid a dime in AMT until this year. The only reason I did this year was that I sold a bunch of stock and took some pretty serious capital gains which put my gross over 220K. Paying home mortgage interest, giving to charity, taking all work related deductions and maxing out pre-tax 401K contributions can all work to keep you out of the AMT.
