One of the great things about a sustained hiring period is that you continually have an influx of 'new guys' joining categories below you every few weeks. However, because of the Boom and Bust nature of 7ER flying, that good deal gets thrown off kilter. Because of the huge surge in summer international flying and the large contraction in the fall, it's no surprise that we saw large goups of new hires headed to the ER in the beginning of this year to make sure they were trained and in place for the summer schedule. Now that we are into the summer, you will likely see the new hire classes transition back to more narrow body offerings (I believe the latest was alll 88s) Therefore, anyone on the bottom now will likely remain there over the short term. Longterm, the 75/76 is looking at planes headed for the desert (though that schedule changes with the wind) and it is likely that over the next several years the category will shrink.
