As far as the eligibility in the interview, I did not try to mislead them in anyway. I put the date that I thought I would be available, and had no reason to think any different. Several other guys in the command have done the same thing with no issues.
If it were me, and I didn't hate what I was doing, I'd probably stay till retirement. Based on all available info, they're going to hire indefinitely (unless the TA goes down, in which case they'll be forced to kill puppies
and the occasional new hire). However, I would recommend checking your options with guard/reserve if you'd be willing to do that for a pension so you can make a fully informed decision.
Barring another 9/11 I think we'll keep hiring steadily (and if there were a disaster like that, they'd be furloughing anyway). That said, last winter they were running ~145 through class a month. That adds up to a lot of seniority in six months.
That's a really tough call, I wish you the best of luck with it. End of the day, a CJO is a pretty good thing. Difficult decision but the main thing is that big picture I think you'll be fine whichever way you go.
