I'm a new hire just finishing IOE on the 737. I was a 5 May class start and I could have held SFO on this next vacancy bid. I can't speak for quality of life yet, but I thought the training in Houston was a terrible program. I have a C-130 for the AF reserves and CRJ at Skywest background, and that's what I compared it to. Basically self taught until you get to full flight sims. All CBT for systems and the beginning training on VNAV and FMS was marginally helpful for line operations.
I am going through bus training right now and in stark contrast, the Airbus training is so far been excellent. Small group instruction (2:1 ratio between student and instructor) so you get 50% of the questions asked and a thorough review of all materials covered the day before. Students are paired with instructors from day one and most instruction is facilitated in a classroom environment. We still have our CBTs but for the major subjects, someone is teaching you the right materials to learn.
