The HIMS program was started by the NIAAA, the FAA then awarded a contract to ALPA, it was a federal program that was started and funded by the government, the program was then brainstormed by a UNited and Continental captain, the FAA then awarded contracts to ALPA, so to imply that ALPA came swooping in with its superman t-shirt is just silly. JS is based on reciprocating agreements, which non Union carriers have so I would assume alpa didn't negotiate that for us and other carriers. Union carriers pilots want to be on our jump as much as we want to be on theirs.

ALPA lobbies every year to keep HIMS funded. Yes, it is contracted to ALPA to benefit all pilots. As for JS, you just need to go back to after 9/11. No offline JS until ALPA and other pilot unions pushed the Feds to allow it again. That's how CASS came to be. ALPA also is a huge part of KCM. ALPA isn't perfect but they do a lot for pilots, including the coat tail riders.
