Everyone that goes anywhere does it for selfish reasons whether it's the first (or only) carrier to call you, a quick upgrade, good pay rates, benefits, domiciles, you name it. No one takes a job solely for the purpose of bettering the industry. If a ta comes up that you don't think gives you what you're worth considering the circumstances, then you vote no. It's not a white knight crusade. Nothing personal, but I think the whole "I try to improve the industry" line is tired. If you're not lobbying, or occupying a union position, then you're just voting yes/no based on whether or not you think a TA is good enough for your own interests. Obviously everyone wants to see the bar raised, but don't pretend you're doing it for anyone else.
You don't know me. Some is for me. Some I try to give back to improve it for others. I grew up taking care of things I have. Sounds like you didn't. Probably given everything in life. You can turn down carrier's who call you if you find out they don't offer you what you want or are worth or if the fit is not right. I have done that. You don't have to take the first one that comes up. You are entitled to your opinion but don't tell me what I pretend to do or not. You don't have to be in a union position or lobbying to change things. Stop with the excuses.
