I' not asking rhetorically; I hear a lot of disdain for aviation degrees and I don't know why.
An aviation degree is of very little use outside the aviation field. I went the aviation degree route myself and regret it even though I didn't do the Embry Riddle thing and saddle myself with 100k in debt. A degree in enginerring or law is useful in a plethora of other fields for the eventual downturns in the aviation industry.
