Dear X,
I am writing to update all CJO holders regarding your future training slot at Delta Air Lines. Many of you had anticipated that you would already be in a training class at this point in time and others are expecting a training class assignment in the very near future. This has been our expectation as well. However, several factors have recently combined to temporarily reduce the flow of “off the street” candidates into our flight training program. This is a temporary change and it should be resolved not later than January, 2016 and quite possibly sooner.
Delta has begun expanding our simulator training facilities to accommodate the addition of new simulators. This process has necessitated the shutdown of two simulators until the construction work near their location is completed. It is difficult to estimate the time frame for the completion of this portion of the project but our Flight Training Department has conservatively planned for placing these simulators back in service in late fall. With two simulators out of service and no off-site simulator time available for rental, the only available strategy has been to reduce the available training slots.
Coupled with the overall reduction in training slots, two other issues are contributing to the reduction of “off the street” new hire slots. We are in the process of completing our pilot “Flow-up” program with Compass Airlines but we are contractually obligated to place 20 Compass flow pilots in class each month through October at which time the flow-up program will cease to exist. Additionally, we are contractually obligated to place Endeavor Air pilots who have successfully completed our interview process into class throughout the fall and that will account for an additional 17 training slots.
The bottom line for each of you is:
1. Your CJO will remain valid regardless of any delay you may experience!
2. We will continue to place each of you in class using our standard criteria of CJO date and the last four digits of your SSN.
3. Training slots will increase as soon as all simulators are again operational and we have concluded the Compass Airlines Flow-up Program in October.
4. Delta envisions hiring between 800-900 pilots per year for the foreseeable future barring any cataclysmic national or world events.
If you have any questions about your individual situation, please send us an email at
[email protected] and write CJO Training Slot in the subject line.
Sincerely,
A.W. “Arnie” Kraby
