I see my reps flying all the time and answering calls and emails on their own time for free. If trips are dropped it's to do specific union business that conflicts with your regular line. The negotiating committee should be busy enough right now to have most or all of their trips dropped but they would be the exception, not the rule. You don't just drop trips and sit at home.
This constant power grab is getting tiresome to the rest of us. I don't see the point of bickering over being a MEC officer or a representative. Those people don't have power over anything and are working for free. I'm glad we have people with a drive to serve but fighting over it seems silly. The line pilots have all the power. If you crave power then bid your line, fly your line, attend the meetings, and vote.
