I went through two long training events (Brasilia and CRJ) in SLC without a car. I never regretted not bringing mine. Lots of people in your class will have a car. There's a train to take you downtown from the hotel. Also car rentals in SLC are dirt cheap. I was able to rent a car for $12/day to go hiking up in the mountains on the weekends. If you rent a car every single weekend it probably still wouldn't even come close to the cost of gas to drive from Arkansas and back.
