I think it's several factors. First, the program was sold to the pilots as if it were basically what PSA and American have. Walk in, shake hands, tell them you want the job, and get your class date. Instead we got the full Delta interview experience except for the shrink on day 2. Second (largely because of the first part) pilots showed up unprepared, because they expected the advertised handshake and a job. Third, Delta has unprecedented access to the pilot record files of Endeavor pilots. As part of the deal they got access to all training records, attendance records, and discipline records. That is a lot more than they get to look at from anyone off the street, and in my opinion, regardless of what Arnie K. says, they have already determined that several pilots won't be hired no matter how well the interview day goes. They are doing those interviews because they have to go through the motions. Fourth, they can't afford to hire a high percentage because there is nobody to replace outgoing pilots in great numbers. They need to keep Endeavor staffed during this process. Hiring 85-95% would drain this place too quickly to keep it viable in their minds. Fifth, They heavily prefer military to civilian, and most Endeavor pilots trying to leave have no military experience. Sixth, it's Delta, it's their culture... enough said.
