Fast Track programs may provide benefits to the participant and the airline:
1) Student gets airline seniority sooner.
2) Student gets a leg up on new-hire training.
3) Some non people-oriented students get through (non people-oriented CFI = unemployed CFI).
3) Airline gets $$$ from fast track tuition (some programs)
4) Airline gets a "Moldable" new hire.
These programs do not benefit the profession or the participant in the long run.
1) Participant will not be able to upgrade for years.
2) Some crappy pilots get through training simply because they have some much repetetion in the sim. They're still crappy.
3) Non-people oriented FO's will make crappy captains someday.
4) Encourages a standard of pay-for-training...employers should pay for all training beyond FAA certificates & ratings.
5) A "Moldable" new hire is not a good thing... No pilot EVER has had an advantage in training because of a LACK of experience. His lack of experience only ensures that he can be taken advantage of more easily.
