This all depends if your finally place to settle is American. If the upgrade is 2.5 years so what about the flow? The flow is there just to retain people that want to go to American. United, Delta and a few others will be hiring big time. Don't look at the flow so much as such a positive for just going to American. Look at the fact it will help you upgrade faster and have a better QOL in a shorter time.
My point was that the infamous 2.5 year upgrade is all contingent on the flow working perfectly, one hiccup (without any increase in flying) then those numbers go at the window.
