What happens when they "go back to the line?" How do they bid for a schedule they can't hold?
I had an instructor in my last CQ who couldn't hold it. IIRC, he was instructing in some other plane and they needed instructors and asked him, or he volunteered.
I think I remember him saying he bids on his flying month the same as everyone else and usually ended up on reserve. However, there are plenty of months on he 777 where you could build 6-7 more lines with the open time. So, he may get trips.
