I just flew with a captain involved in training/ management. The last two months have been 80-90 new hires a month spread over both the crj and erj. Management wants 100 a month but cannot afford less than 40 a month to cover attrition. Skywest is trying to expand on the ERJ side but they don't want to commit to a large number of airframes until they have the pilots for the next few years. He says they are planning on hiring indefinitely and training indefinitely.

That was other great thing he was telling me about management thinks the pilot shortage is only going to last two maybe three years. And then it will be easy to get pilots again.
