I would not call putting on 50 pounds in less than 3 months "gaining on a few pounds." Unexpected weight gain could be a symptom of a more serious illness. Personally, I would get a full physical, including blood work, from my regular doctor ASAP and find out what, if anything, is going on before getting your FAA medical. JMHO.
Yeah, unless you know WHY you gained that much get it checked out before you see the AME.
Most regionals probably wouldn't care right now. But even though the majors may no longer have a hard and fast BMI criteria, being over weight would not make a good impression with the typical ex-military culture.
