They also want to be able to streamline the 170/175s onto one certificate, they cannot do this right now with Delta's current scope. Without the codeshares helping BB, the only other avenue is a Judge. Getting the pilots to sign another bad contract is just a bonus.
This exactly. Remember, up until the start of 2015, the plan was to park the 145s as they came off contract. That's why chautauqua was merged into shuttle: to already have all of the staff on a working certificate as the planes came off CPA. Pilots coming off the 145 could then be on Shuttle, ready to fly the 175s coming online for United. But then, Delta threw a wrench in all of that by exercising their right to extend some of the aircraft.
145s are flying to the desert as we speak. "Restructuring" was already happening, LBFO or not. "Restructuring" means BB & Co can get out of that pesky 145 deal and get their dream all-Ejet fleet.
