I've seen a few comments on here alluding to picking a plane based on its upgrade time. The aircraft you choose doesn't affect your upgrade time. It's your overall company wide seniority. Unless you're really focused on a base you need, take the first class available. Even a weeks seniority makes a difference just in the case the music stops. At my old airline, if I had started two weeks later, I would have gotten furloughed 2-3 months before I actually did get furloughed.
