Several years ago, a C-5 had an engine disintegrate over upstate NY while in IFR. The engine was a complete loss and parts went flying everywhere. At the same time, a guy that flew hang gliders and bragged to his friends that he flew in the clouds, went missing. He was flying that day too, in the same general area. Last the time I read anything about the incident, the USAF was looking into the guy down the engine theory, didn't hear the outcome.
