Do you sit reserve in base waiting for an IOE opportunity since you can't fly normal lines? Do you sit home until something opens up resulting in 3-4 months of long call-like status? What is the real reason for the long IOE times (training dept, LCA shortages, hew hire deficiencies)? Thanks.
I don't find it troubling at all. It is not OE that is taking long, it is the wait for OE. I believe it is due to a current shortage of check airman. While waiting, you sit at home. You get to bid for your days off, and the 17 days you work are spent on a long call-like status. 4 months after your hire date (or if you finish OE), you start making first year guarantee instead of training pay.
