I just heard that LGA is going to be a base now... makes me suspicious that the outstation basing is going away very soon...
But anyway, shamrok, I haven't been at Colgan for very long, but so far they have been alright. We could definitely benefit by having some sort of a contract, which is why I'm supporting the ALPA push here, and it looks like the unionization is just a matter of paperwork now.
You should be able to get your base pretty soon after being hired, I haven't heard of anybody having to wait more than a few months for the base they want. I wanted IAH and got a call a week after getting to my assigned base offering me a slot in IAH. Another FO here in JHW wanted PVD and got it in about a month.
The pay is not great, but the upgrade is really fast, which makes the 3rd and 4th year FO pay a non-issue. However, once you do upgrade, you are going to make less than CAs on similar equipment in other companies. But, if you are just looking for somewhere to get your time and move on, then that's not that big of a deal.
You can get hired here with less than their published minimums, too. Half of my class had lower than published mins.
The flying it self is fun, but exhausting. 8 and 9 leg days are not unusual at all. The good side of that is you get a LOT of good quality experience. You will do a lot more actual flying in a day than the jet jockeys, by far. So, this does a lot for you in terms of making you a better pilot, if not a tired one.
Hope I helped...
