Unless it's a sudden termination, these things tend to take a while to interview prospects and allow time to settle in and ease the transition. Internal promotions take less time but only guarantee more of the same. The new Sr. VP might follow tradition and replace current VPs with former trusted associates. I would go outside if I were him, from what I remember, there aren't many suitable internal choices that would rebuild the lost trust. Not that senior leadership appears to care, but if BL is who I think it is, the cure is probably worse than the disease. Guys that worked with him at his former airline didn't have many good things to say about him and from what I hear, that hasn't changed since he got there.
