It is a lot cheaper to buy your competition, than fight and compete with them. Plus, management gets to give themselves massive bonuses, and gold parachutes, or both. You can't give yourself a big bonus just by growing.
I would put my money on Alaska as our next target, and Delta would go after Hawaiin. Just a guess. I wouldn't put any money on it.
