I'd recommend any new hires follow the rules 100%. What I mean is don't get into the game of doing favors. It just screws over everyone else, especially now that we are alpa. As an example we have a few guys who are SFO based but live in SoCal volunteering to sit reserve in lax without a hotel or per diem. It goes against seniority and our rules. Also don't answer the phone when you're not on duty.
