Not picking up open time is a personal choice, the union hasn't asked me not to because that would be illegal. It is a matter of principle and I wish many, many more would join me. It's a lot better solution than what others are suggesting in order to "manufacture" leverage. The company can't force you to pick up open time and the union can't ask you not to but as a purely personal choice, it's a sound one.
