With that being said, what is my schedule & flight hours going to be like that first year?
Schedule- Short Call Reserve to start. 12 hours on call with 2 hours to report. 4AM, 6AM, 9AM or Noon starts for the 12 hour windows. As for being used: from nothing to whatever they can jam into the FAR/CBA limits. You can be worked 6 days in a row, but you must agree if they want to work you more than 4 in a row without a night in domicile. 6 Guaranteed Days OFF + 5 days off that can be moved and occasionally are. I think 1st year is just 1 week of vacation.
Hours- See above. Somewhere between 300-600 block seems reasonable for 12 months. Call-Me-First will usually get you a little bit more than no preference.
If you live fairly close to the airport, short call in ATL is not bad. You will have 11 days OFF a month, but 20ish days at home is not unheard of.
That is the very condensed version, hope it helps. When you get on the line, study the scheduling section of the contract and FAR117, you will need them.
Welcome aboard. Reserve sucks, but living in base there are far worse places to be.
