What costs us all is the company buying back stock, losing their asses in fuel hedges, paying other employees well in excess of prebankruptcy wages, etc. all before making us whole. Other pilots' actions do not hurt us. The company's sick leave data is manufactured to show us in the worst possible light. It is a negotiating strategy for the company to erode our benefits. Let me say it again. It is a NEGOTIATING STRATEGY AGAINST US. The company feels our current sick leave policy is industry leading and they aren't content with any sections of our contract being industry leading hence the attack on sick leave.
Members who commit sick leave abuse steal from the pilot group by way of added costs associated with their fraud which diminish our profit sharing checks. The verification modifications were an attempt to reduce that fraud ( costs ). One very tangible benefit would have been larger profit sharing checks for us all.
