I was an AUG '14 hire and no one in my class can currently hold anything other than 190 left or right seat; that may be true for a few classes before us as well, but I'm not sure. ie people in my class that did not want the 190 CA are still in the right seat on second year pay because there are no other slots (small or big bus or 75/76) available. This also means that the whole 'good line on the Airbus or short call on the 190' argument is no longer valid. For now at least you will be on short call on either one, so the actual hourly rate difference between the two becomes more important. Do lots of shuttle legs tire one out? Yes. ...but so do months of red eyes on the small airbus. The point is the landscape has changed and there is no movement right now anywhere except the 190. That is obviously subject to change so what things look like a year from now is anyone's guess. I think this situation currently is because of the 767 draw down, but that's above my pay grade. My opinion is both 190 and the small bus are nice planes to fly, the 190 having a better FMS interface and the Bus being much more comfortable. So good look to all, it will be interesting to see what the next year holds, the only thing that seems certain is more RJs.

I think you are right.
But I think there are some more components. The company seems to be so focused on getting recalls through training on the LAA side that they are ignoring the LUS side entirely.
Last time I was in CLT, the training center was a total ghost town. Nothing at all like when I was hired. (Yet we have people who have been in the pool for over a YEAR!)
And we sure ain't fat on reserves on the bus.
I think they are mainly trying to address the recall thing and have just dropped the ball. Probably no one will really take notice until flights start cancelling for lack of reserves.
