Next question. Are there many regional pilots at ExpressJet in the guard or reserves and will they work with you if you are? The reason I am asking is bc I used to live in Las Vegas and might be able to get a part time guard bumming job as well.
If that is feasible, I'd have drill once a month. Could I do drill Saturday and Sunday, then go to McCarren and get on like a 3 day trip starting on Monday?
Staying in Atlanta and not moving is probably more important than this potential part time guard job (which I can do later), so just seeing if that is an option too.
I'm in the Reserves (Infantry), here at ASA (ExpressJet) and you can definitely bid to have drill days off, however keep in mind that if you have to submit for military leave, probably because you didn't get your bid choice to have those drill days off then you will be docked the min day pay each drill day. Not really a huge deal but when your only making 23/hr, which on a normal 40hr work week equates out to about $10 bucks/hr, it can be. I'm guessing since your an Officer type money's probably not as big of a deal. On the other part you mentioned you had like 2200 hours, well like the other guy stated you may be able to get into Delta (if your current) who knows... I know plenty of guys, including myself who have thousands of hours on transport aircraft who have no shot at Delta or any other Major, because realistically their is no pilot shortage as the media proclaims (ie... plenty of other more qualified people). So keep that in mind your stay here maybe much longer than you anticipated. I am currently on reserve and came from another airline to be home based in ATL (CRJ), and believe me its much better then living the suck as a Regional reserve guy commuting. Also don't take training or the interview with a grain of salt actually prepare yourself it would be embarrassing to show up at the interview cocky "saying you got a pulse" and fail the ATP written they give. They'll also probably put you in the sim since your last duty was flying drones, don't know but the key is be prepared either way. All in all if you got a good attitude, you not too cocky and respect others here you'll like it very much, and most will bend over backwards to help you out if needed, if not seek life else where.
