In case anyone is blinded by the accompanying pay, JRM is limited for a reason. One, if not the primary, reason we have a a CBA is for PROTECTION! JRM limits are PROTECTIONS.
Remove JRM limits? Not now , now ever! Any NC that suggests (as they just did) removing limits on junior manning - read that, "FORCED WORK ON MY DAY" - needs to be dumped yesterday.
History says that the company will pay more than straight pay when the company needs pilots to work. That's a fact. The reason that the company stopped paying a premium for working a day off is simply that Spirit ALPA filled a grievance and arbitration to STOP the practice.
Spirit ALPA, in my opinion, was driven more by a jealous leadership wanting to stop seeing other pilots earn high credit than any altruistic ideals of fairness. They will counter that they were simply upholding the contract. Audi2000 can explain far better than I, but MOST of this group believes that the limit on JRM is a limit on JRM, not a limit on 200% pay. In my time in the union, ALPA advised that we not attempt to stop the company from paying a premium just because the company was using an existing pay code to manage the payroll system. Because that's all this is; in 2007 Spirit, being in the middle of the transition to a ULCC and growing rapidly, began "incentivizing" WDO. In order to make things easy on an already overtasked payroll dept, Spirit coded the incentivized pay as JRM. NO JUNIOR MANNING WAS TAKING PLACE!
I'm going to stop and leave y'all with this: Leave the JRM language alone, it is a protection against having your days off stolen when the company gets into the next (inevitable) crisis. Add in some sort of premium pay system. It's really that simple. Instead, the NC, reacting to pressure from a group that really desires some sort of premium system, has indicated that they are working to remove a protection. Next will be pref bid! That will get us more money [/sarcasm]
JRM is ridiculous here. I get called a lot on days off and I have little interest in working on my days off. Set up system where they flag the trips for JMP and let those that want it pick it up on the computer. No stupid calling the whole list. It's just a dumb way to do things.
You are freaking out calling everyone stupid over a statement that is vague and could be interpreted many different ways. Why don't you email the JC to ask what they meant about removing JRM limitations? It's probably not close to what you are thinking. Instead you get on APC and insult our JC. Really classy!
