I hope you have a fuel efficient little beater you can deliver pizzas in during the 70-75 hours a week you won't be instructing.

On a more positive note. If you really intend to be a freelancer then I highly recommend you invest in Gregory Brown's book: THE SAVVY FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR - Secrets of the successful CFI.
It will help you tremendously on how to build a solid student base as a freelancer or as an employee of any flight school. Good luck.
I've already got the offer to work at LGB as a CFI. Sue told me to call her as soon as I get it and she'll have a load of students for me. Everyone who works there is a freelance and the owner of the joint wont let you charge less than $40/hr to prevent undercutting the other instructors. $45/hr is the preferred number and plenty of new CFIs go in there charging that amount. They do all the advertising for you too. They are extremely short staffed and have a waiting list of students as well. I think it will be a cushy little job since I know everyone there too from when I did my IFR rating. Really is going to be a great place to work.
