It is the companys desperate attempt to staff both the right and left seat at the same time as they couldn't attract enough new FOs in order to upgrade organic FOs while not hurting their staffing at the same time.

Make no mistake, you will be a first officer. ON RESERVE. And they can use you for EITHER SEAT which means that you are, in every sense, schedulings Bi**h. When you finally upgrade, you will be stuck as a junior captain as organic FO's will continue to upgrade when they hit their times and push you back down the list.

Is that worth the blended pay rate? Is that worth the quality of life upheaval? In our current state where PIC is proven to not be as much of a requirement as it used to, I say no.
