Awesome Poolies,
Anyone that has been here for a while, and it doesn't take long, knows that crew resources puts out memos that are... interesting. My favorite, when the 717 came they said the 88's staffing was going to be reduced, no backfilling, life on the 88 would get worse then it currently was... oh and btw, the 88 to 717 transition course is a cras... is only 5 days vs 4 weeks or something. AE drops, lots of 88 FOs go to the 717 just as they hoped and subsequently they added to the 88. Now wait a minute... I think you people tricked us to save money an... hey, this thing has air conditioning. I like it. I'm straight. No complaining. Nope.
Really they're not bad faith guesstimates, per se, it's just as someone said the 5 year plan changes every 3 weeks. Their estimation of things, such as staffing, might be as accurate as saying "go east if you want to go from Los Angeles to Atlanta." True, but. It's not exactly what you were looking for but it's not wrong. You'll see it a lot in bids where they say they're adding 10 pilots to a category and add 40. I mean they had no staffing on the ER this summer, but hey, we're reducing that fleet so they didn't even add in the second to last AE. It's a wag. And things change on them all the time. So even if they're being honest on hiring numbers, who knows until it's over.
And truth is, they need to hire a lot of people. They can try to mitigate with changing work rules and stuff, but they still need a lot of people. So even if we don't buy off on contracts promising 739s, E190s (20 now becomes a firm 70 according to some here) and magical unicorns that have rainbows coming out their posteriors (also known as the 777), we need you people.
So hopefully they put all of you folks' butts in jets here as soon as possible. And if you go to the 717, it's awesome, but that butt will hurt. Buy a pad to sit on.
