While I agree with the bulk of what you wrote, I do disagree with the above statement. The new hires I know, mostly from my own class, but also former Air Force colleagues, are all guys with solid resumes and of great character. I'm positive all of us would have been picked up elsewhere (including AA). Please don't propagate the myth that we (LUS new hires) are somehow weaker new hires, it's BS.
