I submit that we, the union, need a third party to represent those of us in the middle who see the good and bad from both sides.

I actually don't think a party system within the union is necessarily bad.
I'll make an analogy as to why. In a Presidential election you know exactly who you want to vote for. As you vote you realize there are a bunch of other elections going on but if you're so inclined you can vote a straight party ticket. But then you get down to Judges. Well Judges are a big deal, I didn't know I needed to vote on them, what are my choices?
You get Name 1 and Name 2. You have no idea about any one of them. Should you randomly pick one or let more informed people vote?
I think that's how we felt about a normal council election before Delta pilots discovered in 2015 that social media existed. Who do you vote for? You've got a bunch of fliers in your v-file, you don't know any of these people and they're all telling you the same "better scope, better pay, more QOL" thing... unless... they're a 737A in Atlanta who tells you do the math.
So who do you vote for? Or should you even bother? But then if you don't bother, what if the wrong people win? Because frankly, you're not exactly feeling like the union is fighting for you so maybe you should pick someone who will change things. But who is that? They're all saying the same thing, "we're for you!" unless they're the aforementioned ATL 737A math guy. And is this thing rigged? Are they just all from the same
closed shop group? Maybe they're not, but how do you know?
IMHO that's the benefit of Republican and Democrat under someone's name. For a majority of the time you know this person is cut from this mold and this one from this mold.
We basically have that now in the sense you kind of know who the Moakies are, but all you really know is whether they are a Moakie or they're not. The C44 guys ran as a team, I think that's great. Run as a team.
I think it's a good idea. Call it a team.
