The outstation bases (PSP,FAT, TUS, COS) typically have very early morning departures and very late arrivals at night. Most of the pairings either start real early or get off really late(or both). It would put you commuting in the day before, or going home the day after a lot of the time. Living in domicile would be fine if you don't mind 5am shows or 11pm releases.
The recently added TAFB rig actually helps these folks a lot. Start early + end late = lots of TAFB. You can do a "crappy" three day but get paid like a four day. So yeah you get to bed at 0100 or 0200 but you're home...and you don't have to fly more legs when you wake up. I'm good with it.
