Just some things to point out from the more pessimistic point of view: I would love to tell people to come here. But I can't in good conscience do it. So I want to point out the other side on a few things you mentioned.
First, this LOA. On the ERJ side, there is no restriction whatsoever for captains to fly as FOs, except that they get paid their captain rate. Management has been saying for almost a year that they will upgrade more FOs in order to artificially decrease upgrade times. Do you remember they said they would upgrade 20 pilots a month? Well, on the ERJ side, the last bid award came out and upgrade time has increased to almost 9 years!
Second, as for our good performance (good performance on the ERJ was the norm before being bought by Skywest by the way) has not paid off. And when seeing that operators like Commutair and RAH, which has recently had 95% CCF, and Mesa, which historically had bad performance, get more flying, I wouldn't put too much faith in that line from management.
Lastly, as for possibility getting separate contract extensions (which is not good to begin with) in order to define our costs and put to rest the supposed unease of mainline partners, when you look at all the regionals who have recently gained flying WITHOUT the help of a new contract defining their future costs (Mesa, RAH, TSA, Commutair, awac), I wouldn't put too much faith in that management line either.
Do I think it's possible that all the things you mentioned will happen? Sure, there is always a chance that for the first time since Skywest bought xjt, everything will start to fall in our favor. And I hope it does. But I wouldn't be that optimistic considering what management has/hasn't done in the past.
Their work rules are not that good compared to xjt's contract. It would be a huge concession if we went to their pay and work rules. And they only get what they get because they ride the coat tails of other union pilot groups. Their management only gives them enough to keep them non-union. Most of them don't know how much more they have to work to make the same as us.
These are cases in which the pilot was able to finance his own defense. Skywest had to pay him back tens of thousands just in legal costs. The ones who cannot afford to pay their own legal fees, just take it. I have friends there that have told me of stories of intimidation and harassment from their Cheif pilots if you don't tow the line (call in sick too much, can't make your commute more than once, question safety, question reason for being bypassed for upgrade, those are off the top of my head).
