I would say the most ideal situation is when you are able to time your DOS such that you are able to start indoc while on terminal. But I would say it's not a hard-and-fast rule that you should NEVER sell back leave.

My case is one where selling back makes the most sense. My separation date is 30 Nov, which I picked way back in July when Delta said to expect to class up end of August. My goal was to drop PTDY and terminal together when indoc started, but we all know how the pool got backed up. So for me, selling back makes far more sense then taking terminal. If you don't have a job starting immediately upon separation, sell back plus TAMP (available in a lot of cases) can be an option to hold you over for a couple months.
