Not quite: age-60 came about in 1959 when American CEO C.R. Smith asked his ol' buddy Gen. Pete Quesada (First FAA Administrator) to enact a new rule, because the looming jets on the horizon were going to cost him too much in pilot pay if everyone was super-senior.
