Assuming you're on the ER, bid package shows 4-99-4. Where the first 4 is the min num of days on you can have. The 99 is basically meaningless (we can be on call forever, sweet!), the last 4 is the min number of off day groupings.
I'm having a little trouble visualizing your schedule/predicament which makes giving you a useful answer more difficult. I'm assuming you would be getting a random day off that would be your 5th group of day off groupings. Never had that issue. In my case, I've run into the min days on when trying to drop/change. It would have created too small a group of days on.
As long as you have a res group of more than 4 days, you should be able to drop something at beginning or end of that grouping without a problem--if manning allows.
