I wouldn't read too much into the number of unfilled vacancies.
There's nothing binding about them.
Crew Resources knows they need at least 1 unbid slot in those categories so they just throw a big number on the AE posting. That's why you'll see big round numbers like 50 or 80 or whatever.
They post those new hire category openings strictly for contractual reasons. They have to offer all openings to existing pilots before they can assign new hires to them.
They can post 5 or 500 "openings". It doesn't make any difference to them
as long as at least 1 goes unbid.
