And $250 a week may mean little to you, but to some, it's the difference between barely existing and being comfortable. At the very least, it's a few hotel rooms while on reserve.
Think of the -$250/month as an insurance policy. If you bust an altitude and get violated, you don't have to explain it in your Delta interview (if you are so lucky to ever get one), as you already have a guaranteed job with AA. If you lose or don't want to keep a log book, you don't have to worry...because you already have a job with AA. If you fail a check ride once, or every year during recurrent, you won't have to explain it in your United interview (if you are lucky enough to ever get one), as you already have a guaranteed job with AA. If you get a few speeding tickets, a bankruptcy, a minor misdemeanor (stuff happens), you don't have to explain it at your FedEx interview....just sayin'!
