Actually I wouldn't dismiss the fact that skywest will more than likely be parking RJs at some point. But their future, in my opinion, is very bright. Lots of 175s coming and almost every captain I flew with when I was there has quit. My guess is that Skywest will continue to find new contracts and grow. Or remain stagnant but certainly not shrink.
Because they have gotten so big, the fall will be dramatic. When the majors park the smaller planes for the larger aircraft, then the recession hits next year and flying is reduced again and more contracts lost, there will be no turboprops to protect the furloughs. Chip will cut what he needs to which might be as high as 400 pilots. That will help the staffing but I'm wagering 2016 isn't going to be a good year for regionals in general.
