Their favorite thing to do was to find where big name hotels had bought older, failing hotels, and "renovated" them. You might see a hotel brand listed that you like, but arrive to something less than desirable.

I haven't stayed in a Microtel or Guesthouse Suites here at Mesa, yet, but I haven't flown the whole system yet either. There is a difference in quality, but my 2¢ is that it's not as big as it was being made out to be.
