Reserves can now have extensions applied to their 16 hour day thanks to some genius at the FAA. So with a 2 hour extension a 4-4 reserve is good till 10pm. That is something that should never happen but it can, and they will try to do it.
As long as you aren't on duty for 16 hours, I don't see the harm in it. If I have a RAP starting at 4 am, and get called at 10 for a noon show, the most I can be on duty is 8 hours and that's only extendable if stuff starts going bad.
