I don't get why most outbound crews wait in the gate area until the previous crew gets off the plane and leaves. At my previous airline the next crew was always waiting at the bottom of the jet bridge. If you have a bad GPU and you cannot see the next crew is there, your only option is to power it down or go looking for the next crew. I understand you don't want to get in the way of the passengers or gate checks, but it makes it much easier for the inbound crew if they know the next crew is waiting.
I'd walk up the bridge and get them to come down before I shut the airplane completely off. Or have the FO go check? Then if you are so compelled, you can nicely tell them that they should have come down earlier.
