Exactly right. Our union has zero influence in pairing construction. The company typically runs the pairing construction software to produce a solution with minimum soft time above all else. This results in an overwhelming amount of unproductive four day trips at the expense of most other types of pairings (due to averaging). This is also why we have such poor line 'purity.' The four days pay so little that a day turn (which likely also credits little) must be tacked on to create a five day work block. This is a bad outcome for both commuters and locals.

Bottom line: garbage pairings produce garbage lines under our current system or PBS. No reason to entertain PBS at all.
